Jake's Final, last chapter

For now.

Kiani ran much faster than M, which took him off guard. "Slow down, Ki! You don't know what-"

Laser fire came at them from the direction of the village. M knew the power signature, but he could not believe it. It was from the type of guns his people used. Kiani was nicked in the shoulder, and she fell, giving M time to reach her. He looked at her wound. It wasn't deep at all, just a scratch. She looked at him with blazing eyes, filled with tears. He knew what she was thinking, and she was probably right. They were here because of him. "Let go of me, my village needs me…"

He looked toward where the fire was coming from. A group of ten, no, twelve, were advancing. "Kiani, there is no more village, I don't know why they attacked, but they did, we need to get out of here, now…"

"No, I am the protector of the village, trust me… I must go back…"

More laser fire missed there heads by mere feet. "We will die if we stay here, Kiani!"

Her eyes started to glow. "No, you don't understand…"

A flash of power erupted from her body, and M was thrown back from her. She rose six inches off the ground, looked at M (is she making sure I'm all right?) and then she turned. A barrage of fire surrounded her, but it seemed to be repelled from hitting her. Then it happened. She screamed unlike anything M had ever heard and a beam of solid white light emitted from her body onto the troops. They were disintegrated instantly. "Whoa", M said, under his breath.

M got up on his knees. He slowly got up, but felt all his energy dissipate. He landed on his chin, and then realized that his ankle was totally healed, and then lost consciousness.

M had a dream. It was more of an awakening. Through a clouded mist, he could see Shamya near a flyer… no… it was his flyer… why was she… she there? She was doing something to it… alone… no… not alone… M heard laughter, but it sounded distorted, almost as if it was coming from a metal pipe, but he recognized it. Shamya looked behind her… she seemed startled, as if… as if she was getting caught… no… she smiled… someone… someone had come up from the side of the flyer… it… no… it couldn't… Kelion Vance took… took Shamya in his arms… and they both laughed together… why… why… why would they… they…

M wasn't sure if the smell of fire brought him from his dream, but it certainly made him aware of where he was. He was back on the battlefield, where he had passed out. No. That's not right, he thought. I'm… the village…

A black plume of smoke came from the village, and there was a deafening silence. M got up to his feet, wiped the little bit of blood from his lip, and walked slowly to the village. It was totally razed. He saw the fire, it looked like a house… no… it was bodies… the bodies of the… oh… oh god… M doubled over and threw up. It was a reaction that took him by surprise, even those his training had been intense, he had never seen any real combat, and the image of over a dozen men (could there be children there too?) burning was just too much. But… where was Kiani? Had she died too? Did his people do this? Kill her, and her village? He looked around some more, and did not see any trace of soldiers.

He rounded the corner of one of the many burnt out houses and saw Kiani, on her knees, a perfect circle of white light around her. Things… no… Eldin's rotated around her, were they the ones who gave her power? M started to walk over, slowly. Kiani glanced over his way. M felt again the same feeling as before, as he feel to the ground, blacking out.

The splashing of water on his face woke M up, and while feeling a sense of loss and dread, he also felt refreshed and very alive. Kiani, now wearing a sort of armor, was the one splashing water in his face. "Wake up, 'M', it's time to go."

M sat up, and looked at her. As usual when he looked at her, he noticed how beautiful she was. He tried to smile. "I'm… I'm sorry about your… your…", he couldn't get the words out.

"I have prayed and mourned, it is behind me. I'm… sorry about having to knock you out, I… didn't want to see you hurt…"

M smiled this time. "Um, thank you, but, I can take care of myself…"

"Hopefully. Come, get your strength. I was able to salvage some of the soldiers equipment. You need to tell me if it works."

"O… okay. Where… are we going?"

Kiani looked up at the night sky. She then looked at M and then smiled. "I don't know yet, but the Gods have told me we must leave, you and I, and that the stars will guide us."

M nodded. There were too many questions left unanswered, but, this seemed better than anything else he would do right now. He looked through some of the arms left intact by Kiani, he found one in working condition. A nice one. He also was able to find some tracking equipment and a couple of working guns.

Kiani asked him if he was ready, and he said he was. It was morning, the fires of the night before had burnt themselves out. They started to walk. One thing, and one thing only M was sure of, was that he felt safe with her. "What else did, uh, did the god's tell you, Kiani?"

"Silly, that is not for you to know right now. Come, we must make good time. Oh, wait… hold on…"

She looked back at the village, no, she was looking past the village. M rolled his eyes. A streak of white followed by sparkles flew to their sides. "Flaan said he is coming with us. He has also been chosen to go on our quest. Do not underestimate the power of the Eldin, M. He will help us with our revenge."

Revenge, M thought. "Ah."

They walked quietly into the forest ahead. Revenge… he thought of his vision of Kelion and Shamya sabotaging his flyer. Revenge sounds good.

The Beginning.
