1009:

Megoth pulled up to the curb threw his car in park. He opened the door and hurried out to the trunk, opening it with the button on his key chain. Kelly walked up, threw his bags in. Megoth smiled. Kelly gave him a look, turned away, and doubled back, as if to say, what the--? Megoth hurried again to his seat and pushed the car back into drive. Kelly made himself comfortable in the passenger seat. “An hour, Megoth. I was waiting for you for a flipping hour.”

“I know, Kelly, I’m sorry. It is… it is… it is, however, good to see you.”

“I hope you weren’t, you know, humping my sister or anything…”

“WHAT? Oh, oh no, Kelly. I lost track of time because I was… uh…”

“What the fuck did you do to your head?”

“Oh, you like it? Rosey did it; I call it Megoth 2.0”

“Megoth 2.0? Wow. That’s really gay.”

“Not funny, Kelly. I like it, actually… it makes me… I… sigh I think I look cool for the first time, in my life.”

“Did my sister tell you that you look cool?”

“…yes.”

“Then I’ll blame her. What else is new besides Frosted Megoth?”

“I… (it’s Megoth 2.0)…. I have much to tell you, but, first, how was your trip? How is our comrade Jake and his vixen, Faith? And tell me, how is California?”

“California is beautiful, Megoth, and you know me, I don’t use that word lightly. Jake is… good… really good, actually, it should be an interesting semester…”

“I agree, Kelly, and if I’m not mistaken, it’s the first time Jake has his… powers… and no restriction on them. I definitely can’t wait to see what he can do…!”

“I don’t think he’ll want to talk about that, and, you should keep that to yourself, also, big guy.”

“Does he not know you told me everything?”

“He does not know. Though, I’m sure he’ll tell you, feeling bad and all that after what they did to you.”

“Never again, Kelly, never again. But I’m getting… getting… ahead… of myself...”

“How’s New York been? Rosey, uh, been treating you... well?”

“I don’t sense that you are comfortable with out relationship yet, Kelly. I accept that, however, I do wish you would have found out under… better… circumstance…”

“Me too.” Kelly then realized, in the draft he read of Jake’s autobiography, that Jake had hinted on that story, but never followed up on it. Gotta remember to remind him, before he hands it in… “And you’re right, Megoth, I’m not comfortable with the fact you’re boning my sister. But… I’m… it’s okay. I still respect that, and even if I didn’t, I hope you two would tell me to butt out or something.”

“You’re my best friend, Kelly, I would never do something to hurt you.”

“On purpose”, Megoth added, not bringing up the first Poke-X incident.

Kelly looked out the window at upstate New York. He had flown in to Rochester, it was the closet airport to campus. It was mid August, the sun was bright but there was a thick haze in the air that made everything a lot hotter than it was supposed to be. Probably that same haze caused all that fucking snow, Kelly thought. In San Diego, there was no such thing as humidity, but here in Northern New York, it was a daily staple of life. Like oatmeal, only wetter and hotter. “Hey Megoth, did Madden come out for PS2 yet?”

“I think it either came out yesterday or today, did you want to stop and get it?”

“I’m thinking yes, what else am I going to do until school starts?”

“I’ll stop so you can buy it. Have enough money?”

“Has money ever been one of my problems?”

“True.”

It was true, Megoth thought, Kelly always seemed to have money. Since he’s known him, almost ten years, has Kelly ever had a job? Where’s he getting the cash from? Some part of Megoth wanted to know, another part really didn’t. Sometimes it’s best just not to know certain things. “Oh”, Megoth said, plowing down the parkway, “by the way… Rosey has a friend staying up here with us.”

“Yeah? She hot?”

“Actually, yes. Her name is Sam, she’s going to be a freshman this year just like your sister. She’s up early to get acquainted with the area, and for freshman orientation.”

“Sounds good. Hey, did you go to your freshman orientation?”

“Of course, it was very helpful. I almost signed up to be a peer councilor, almost. I have other things… going on…”

“It’s going to be weird having my sister go to school with us. But, then again, if she has a lot of hot friends…”

“There ya go.”

“Megoth… did… did Trish call at all?”

“No, why?”

“No reason.”
